Ms. Pam
Visual Arts

About Me:
I believe there is an artist in every student. My job is to expose students to a variety of mediums, techniques, and styles so that they can find success in the arts! I love to learn about art and continually take classes to further my knowledge whether in techniques, skills, and media, or in modern and contemporary art education. I have three kids: Madison, Kendalynn and Spencer. I am married (28 years) to my husband Michael. We have a kitty named Trixie and a goldfish named #4. We love to travel and explore cities.  Boston and Chicago are two of my favorites. In my free time, I love to work with fiber arts.

Education:
BA - The University of West Florida

Member:
   National Art Education Association

Teaching Philosophy/Art Curriculum:

“Teaching for Artist Behavior” modified Choice program with exploring media units and themed art units using media centers of students’ choice.

Teaching for Artistic Behaviors (TAB), sometimes called Choice-based art, is a nationally recognized educational approach to teaching art.  http://teachingforartisticbehavior.org/

It is inline with Montessori principles:
developing a positive attitude towards art,
helping each child develop self-confidence,
fostering curiosity,
developing habits of initiative and persistence, and
building a habit of concentration and focus

TAB allows freedom of choice and movement in a prepared environment that is designed to optimize learning.  The art room has wooden bookshelves that house different media centers including drawing, painting, collage, and free-choice.   There is a research bookshelf full of art books including art history, famous master artists, art jobs, and how-to’s that students can access for inspiration.

Students will be introduced to the 8 Studio Habits of the Mind from Studio Thinking 2: The Real Benefits of Visual Arts Education by Lois Hetland and we will reference them throughout the year.
